Photography!

Last night Kenneth Ingham talked to us about principles of successful photography. His talk was really informative and full of useful tips and tricks. Lighting is everything! He promises to send me a PDF of his slides and we’ll get them posted in the Resources section of this website.

The art show that Kenneth mentioned last night is at the Artistic Image, 1101 Cardenas NE Suite 103. Artist Reception is Mar 24th from 4pm to 8pm.

The iOS developer’s group will start a new project

Andrew Stone, the architect of the Cocoa Conspiracy, a local group of iOS developers and entrepreneurs,  will be starting a new project in the Friday iOS group. Here’s a description from him. It’s a great opportunity to watch an app being developed from the ground up.

Besides our Thursday meetups at Winning Coffee, on the first and third friday of every month, we meet from 10:30 – 12:30 at SouthWest CyberPort’s http://www.ideasandcoffee.com for hands on coding – you are always free to bring your current projects and we provide free engineering and debugging and free ideas too.

My artist, musician and children’s book author pal Seth Hoffman wrote Janie & the Hummingbird | Community Publishing and the app is a multimedia easter egg full version of the book with music.
Seth & I have worked all week to take the app to a place where it’ll be easy to see where we are going, and I won’t fumble writing code – instead, I’m going to show the process of app building from ground zero (but have all the tricky pieces of code pre-built and pre-tested so we’re not thrashing and you won’t get bored.)
Then we’ll start a brainstorming of cool interactive ideas that we can work on to make the app very special over the next months.
Set your clock back tonight if you still have those kinds of clocks!

Sashiko Southwest Awards!

sashiko-quiltLast month we mentioned a number of interesting projects happening in Ideas & Coffee. One of them was Sashiko Southwest, the ecommerce site designed around Joyce Perz delightful Sashiko interpretations of Southwest themes. We aren’t the only fans. Barbara Mummers built a quilt based in part on Joyce’s sashiko designs and it took First Prize and Judge’s Choice at the 2016 Eastern Long Island Quilt Show! Congratulations Joyce and Barbara!

WordPress Thursdays!

wordpress-588495_1280We’ve been doing a WordPress work along for several months now and as it’s picked up in popularity and we’ve gotten more WordPress experts interested we’re moving from once a month to three times a month. Several local website development companies that work with WordPress are sponsoring these which is really awesome! Our current schedule looks like:

  • First Thursday of the month – Orphic Workshop, Ken Hargis & SWCP, Jamii Corley
  • Second Thursday – Noventum Consulting, Brian Stinar
  • Third Thursday – Hermes Development, Jay Renteria
  • Fourth Thursday – General WordPress Meetup, presentations, pizza, conversation
  • Fifth Thursday – if there is one, we rest 🙂

What’s happening at Ideas and Coffee?

The last few months has been fun watching lots of projects coming together at the Coworking Jellies and the WordPress work alongs. Here are a few of the things people are working on.

Eco-friendly Tours

EcotripmatchTerry had the idea that most travel websites really didn’t provide a lot of help when you were trying to arrange a vacation to somewhere special, unusual, adventurous, and out of the major tourist scenes. If you want to spend a night in a hut in the middle of the rainforest, how do you arrange that? Eco Trip Match is the tool you need!  Check it out at EcoTripMatch!

East meets West

Travel Stories

Screen Shot 2016-07-12 at 1.49.40 PMTraveling seems to be a theme these days. Kendra of Zunguka has created a website to collect travel stories from around the world. It’s meant to be a repository of interesting tales of travel, and a way to get more personal information about a place.
